Battlestar Galactica Auction Host Hotel

OK everyone, here is the info on the hotel for the Battlestar Galactica Auction at the Pasadena Convention Center. The host hotel is the Sheraton Pasadena (on the site of the Convention Center). the back up is the Hilton Hotel, one block away. The Shearton has a $ 125 Battlestar Auction rate.

However, I went to Hotwire.com as I always do. Through Hotwire I usually stay at the Hilton there for $ 93 a night...a great rate in L.A. Well, I just booked 14 rooms at the Sheraton for $ 100 a night including all taxes and fees. The posted rate was $ 89-93 a night. So here is what you do:

1) Go to www.hotwire.com

2) Enter the dates you want, and list "Pasadena, CA" as the city

3) You will see a 3.5 star hotel listed at either $ 89 or $ 93 a night. THAT is the Sheraton (Hotwire never tells you till you book). Now, if it changes it may be the Hilton. But that is only a block away! (CA is sunny in the winter, so don't worry about the walk, it will be beautiful most likely).

4) Now if money is no object, call the Sheraton at (626) 449-4000 and ask for the Battlestar Rate (if they cant find it, tell them Tricia arranged it). The official rate is $ 125 a night.

We will also be showing the first new episode of the second half of Season 4 that night on a big screen.

Evolution of a Prop

Blog Post by Will Smith.

Currently there is a great prop up for auction that you shouldn't miss!!!!! A while ago I picked up a set-peice from the Enterprise episode "Minefield" which was part of the arming portion of the mine. The description from the auction was actually "Xindi Super Weapon Interior" and it does appear in the last episode of the 3rd season of Enterprise "Zero Hour" also and has Xindi iconology on it from that episode. Well, I've been casually watching Voyager again on Spike and TNG when it's on and I've seen this prop in each of those series also (well the beginning of what would become the "Minefield" prop). So this thing has been around the block!!! I was wondering if anyone has noticed it in any other episodes or in DS9 which I'm not too familiar with. Anyway here is her evolution:

From the TNG episode "The Pegasus"

From the Voyager episode "Gravity"

From the Voyager episode "Childs Play"

From the Voyager episode "The Void"

From the Enterprise episode "MineField"

Sitting in my bedroom.

A very cool prop with an even more cool history spanning most of the series; don't miss it!!!!!

It's a Wrap eBay auctions - Week 95 Results

86th week of IAW auctions (auctions ending October 10th)

While this is the 86th week of auctions, It is titled Week 95 to be consistent with the Star Trek Auctions Archive.

There were 87 items this week and IAW saw its best week in two months. 8 items topped $ 1,000, and the auctions totaled $ 45,891, IAW's best week in 4 months.

The Costumes

It was a big week for costumes as we had what wound up being the second highest priced costume yet behind the Kirk EV Suit from The Motion Picture.

The Montgomery Scott Starfleet Uniform was indeed a great one! (Dom has hinted there is a Kirk coming). Forum member Brett Leggett won this after battling it out with another forum member. IAW did a commendable job putting the pieces of this costume together and detailing its history. At $ 11,720, it certainly was a lot to spend, but not unrealistic for such an important costume. Sadly, it doesn't come with a Starfleet badge. Fortunately, the new Rod.com versions are made by the original vendor, and are dead on.

Seven of Nine's Space Suit went very strong at $ 6,256. It had no helmet, but was complete other than that it seems. This space suit was introduced in First Contact and then used throughout Voyager. They are pretty cool. I think a Space Suit is top of the costume pyramid and so if you can get a good one, they are well worth it.

The Terran Empire MACO Uniform went for $ 2,926, which was about right. These are pretty popular and we haven't seen one in many months. This one didn't have the back pack (Not a big deal in my book), but of course came with all the weapons and tools. Very cool.

The TNG Professor Data from "All Good Things.." was a good deal at $ 1,025. This is such a memorable episode and so this costume is a good one and well priced.

Finally, at $ 637, I think the Dr. Thomas Leighton Costume Jacket from "Concious of the King" was a steal. Now the jacket might not be very interesting, but any item from TOS is a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

The Props:

My good buddy Anthony won the Enterprise NX-01 Engineering Tools from Daedalus. I know he really wanted this and it is pretty cool. The case had lots of cool props in it and was used multiple times in the show. At $ 2,325 it went strong.

The functional Nemesis Reman Rifle went about right at $ 1,650.

I got outbid on the Klingon Pain Stick at $ 1,247, which went for more than any of the previous ones did. This is a cool piece, and certainly worth the winning bid.

The TNG/Voyager style Engineering LCARS went for a strong $ 1,030. This was pretty non-descript, so I think that is high, but these are pretty popular and iconic in their style.

Degra's Ship Console from "The Council"
went at a very reasonable $ 833. When you can get a full console under $ 1,000, I think you have gotten a good deal. Shipping will be several hundred, but well worth it.

THIS WEEK'S AWARDS:

Best Costume of the Week: Well, this is a no-brainer: the Montgomery Scott Starfleet Uniform!

Best Prop of the Week: The Enterprise NX-01 Engineering Tools from Daedalus was cool!

Best Buy of the week:
The Dr. Thomas Leighton Costume Jacket from "Concious of the King" at $ 637 was a steal!

Worst Buy of the week:
None! Keep up the good work!
Sleeper of the Week: The TNG Command Red Starfleet Uniform - female at $ 588 was a great deal!

HIGHEST PRICED ITEM THAT SOLD

Star Trek: VI Montgomery Scott Starfleet Uniform at $ 11,720.

Star Trek: Voyager Seven of Nine's Space Suit at $ 6,256.

Star Trek: Enterprise Terran Empire MACO Uniform at $ 2,926

Star Trek:
Enterprise NX-01 Engineering Tools from Daedalus at $ 2,325

Star Trek: Nemesis Reman Rifle at $ 1,650.

It's a Wrap eBay auctions - Week 94 Results

85th week of IAW auctions (auctions ending October 3rd)

While this is the 85th week of auctions, It is titled Week 94 to be consistent with the Star Trek Auctions Archive.

There were 103 items this week and IAW saw its best week in two months. Only 5 items topped $ 1,000, but the auctions totaled $ 33,186.

The Costumes

The Gorkon distressed costume went for a very strong $ 4,202. IAW has been showing this one for a while and Dom even wore it at Vegas last year. It is the second Gorkon we have seen and this one featured the Phaser hole in it. This one is neither complete no accurate in that the gauntlets are wrong, but still a great costume.

The Commander Morag Baldric went high, continuing a trend for Klingon Baldrics going well over $ 1,500 lately. These are nice, and do make a Klingon costume even cooler than it is. But the prices are way too high I think.

At $ 1,255, the Jadzia Dax Starfleet Uniform was a good deal. This is the rare jacketed version. Now I will say, I have seen Jadzia's jumpsuits, and they look great, but this is much scarcer.

The
Captain Picard Starfleet Uniform wasn't worn by Patrick Stewart. It was made for him it seems, but never used. Still, at $1,234 it was a steal and my Deal of the Week.

A TNG Operations Gold Uniform went for a healthy $ 1,225. A lot for a costume that had fading and wasn't a hero version.

One of the most interesting costumes was the Starfleet Engineer's White Radiological Costume - Forced Perspective. Made for the scenes in Engineering, where a "forced perspective" was used. This is where objects in the back of the set are smaller so that there is increased perspective, making the set look much deeper than it is. My buddy Anthony got one of these last year in Vegas for his son Michael, and you can see Michael wearing his suit here.

The buyer of this one got a great deal I think. A pretty scarce item.

The Props:

The Ferengi Disruptor Rifle at $ 735 was a pretty good deal. Of course this is actually a Romulan Disruptor Rifle, and this is NOT one of the ones modified for use by Ferengis.

Right behind the Ferengi Rifle, was a rubber Vulcan RIfle. These are pretty cool and I almost bid on it. At $ 676 a very good deal I think.

I liked the Enterprise Bridge Flight Stick and think it was a good deal at $ 576. You don't see one that often, and I would like to see screencaps to see if it was in fact one used in a Shuttlepod.

I really liked the
Enterprise 1950's Vulcan Energy Pistol from "Carbon Creek". A very cool piece that shows the evolution of Vulcan pistol weapons.

Finally, the best deal in the props category was the rubber Cardassian Disruptor Rifle at $ 405. I paid twice that for mine about 4 months ago!

THIS WEEK'S AWARDS:

Best Costume of the Week: The Gorkon distressed costume was clearly the best costume!

Best Prop of the Week: The Enterprise 1950's Vulcan Energy Pistol from "Carbon Creek" was VERY cool!

Best Buy of the week:
The Captain Picard Starfleet Uniform at $1,234 was a STEAL!

Worst Buy of the week:
None! Keep up the good work!

Sleeper of the Week: The rubber Cardassian Disruptor Rifle at $ 405 was a great buy if you got past the fact it was in 4 pieces (and easily glued back!).

HIGHEST PRICED ITEM THAT SOLD

Star Trek: VI Gorkon distressed costume at $ 4,202

Star Trek: TNG Commander Morag Baldric at $ 1,500

Star Trek: DS9 Jadzia Dax Starfleet Uniform at $ 1,255

Star Trek:
TNG Captain Picard Starfleet Uniform at $1,234

Star Trek:
TNG Operations Gold Uniform at $ 1,225

IAW's worst item ever

"Stunt Steel Rebar"

That's right, a piece of rubber rebar is up for auction. No clue WHERE it was used, and for WHAT, but there it is for all to behold!

Now I wish this was April 1st, so there would be an obvious joke, but I am hoping this is Colin's sly sense of humor, because this is, without doubt, the dumbest prop I have seen in their auctions.

If this was "Stunt Steel Rebar used to whack Kirk over the head in episode XYZ" I would at least find it intriguing!

UGH!

It's a Wrap eBay auctions - Week 93 Results

84th week of IAW auctions (auctions ending September 19th)

While this is the 84th week of auctions, It is titled Week 93 to be consistent with the Star Trek Auctions Archive.

There were 81 items this week, almost all props. There were only two costumes and two costue accessories. Only 2 items topped $ 1,000, which is a reflection on the lower overall quality of the items. However, it was a good, broad selection, with some cool props and many good values.

Some people are complaining about the selections of items, but I think IAW is just running out of great stuff.

The Costumes

The Cardassian Military Uniform went for a strong $ 2,878. These are great costumes. I have Garak's and it really looks fantastic on display. I would suggest getting a good Cardassian Pistol replica, which looks cool and adds a bit of color to this all grey uniform.

A Voyager Command Red Starfleet Uniform went for only $ 743. A great deal and I would reccomend everyone get one at this price!

The Props:

The Klingon Mek'Leth with attached Borg Arm was pretty darn cool, and at $ 1,009 a pretty fair deal. IAW notes that "The mek’leth is not the one used by “Worf” in the scene but is included to complete the lot. " The arm is showing the typical signs of detrioration for these foam and latex props. I do like how IAW paired these two items up, because I think how you display something is always important. This will make a really cool and very recognizable display if you display this well. Contact Jeff at Screen Used Props and he will give you a discount on his very cool displays if you are a member of the Star Trek Prop Forum.

The Xindi Hand Gun with Holster was a good buy at $ 848. I love these weapons as the paint job is so cool. The holsters look great as well. At this price, a great deal.

The Enterprise Starfleet Communicator with Circuit Board from "Shockwave" was pretty cool. Granted it is only an Art Asylum piece, but still, at $ 687 it was a good deal. The Circuit Board really makes this set.

The 24th Century Molded Phaser and Tricorder Props was an excellent deal. At $ 607 it gave the winner two iconic props. Of course they were the molded foam background versions but cool none the less.

Four Star Trek III Genesis Planet Microorganisms went for a cheap $ 565. A great deal when you figure out you get a classic Star Trek prop for only $ 130 a piece!

Finally, I won the 13th pair of Romulan Senate Stools auctioned off by IAW. I havce been waiting for the right time and this was it! At $ 410, this was by far the lowest price yet on these. I intend to pick these up from IAW and use them in y new SoCal apartment!

THIS WEEK'S AWARDS:

Best Costume of the Week: The Cardassian Military Uniform was one of only two costumes this week, and even at $ 2,878, a worthy costume of the top prize.

Best Prop of the Week: The Klingon Mek'Leth with attached Borg Arm was very cool and a good deal at $ 1,009.

Best Buy of the week:
My win of the Romulan Senate Stools at $ 410 was a steal!

Worst Buy of the week: None! Good job all!

Sleeper of the Week: Gray 24th Century Carry Case!

HIGHEST PRICED ITEM THAT SOLD

Star Trek: DS9 Cardassian Military Uniform at $ 2,878

Star Trek: First Contact Klingon Mek'Leth with attached Borg Arm at $ 1,009

Star Trek: Enterprise Xindi Hand Gun with Holster at $ 848.

Star Trek: Voyager Command Red Starfleet Uniform at $ 743.

Star Trek:
Enterprise Starfleet Communicator with Circuit Board from "Shockwave" at $ 687

Introducing.....The Doug Drexler Collection

Earlier this year Doug Drexler, the Academy and Emmy Award winning make-up and special effects person for Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, contacted me as he has an extensive collection of Star Trek props and set pieces that he wanted to sell.

After winning an Academy Award for his amazing make-up work on Dick Tracy, Doug worked on Star Trek from the first year of Star Trek: The Next Generation, till the end of Enterprise. He started as a make up artist on TNG, and after three years moved to the art department, where he stayed for the rest of his Star Trek career. He then started working on Battlestar Galactica as the senior CGI artists and has won two Emmy Awards for his work (along with CGI Supervisor Gary Hutzel and their gang) the last two years.

You can read an interview with Doug here and read about him on Memory Alpha here. You can read a bit of a Star Trek resume on Startrek.com.

Doug has an AMAZING collection of Star Trek props, set pieces and graphics. Over 300 pieces in all and something for everyone! So here are the details...

I will start posting photos of the items Doug has. If you are interested, please email me at alec@propworx.com. Doug and I will start by selling items direct, but may wind up putting the items on eBay if there are too many people interested in a specific item in order to be fair. I think you all know I have a pretty good feel for the market and am a collector myself, so we want to be fair to everyone.

So if you see something you like, email me with an offer or call me to chat.

Borg "Hero" arm for sale on Screen Used

If you haven't been to Screen Used Props, you should check it out regularly. Jeff and Desi are two of the good guys in props and they have a great web site.

Now they have a Borg arm from Star Trek.
It is a "hero" arm with metal fittings in the front. Very cool. I think the price is a bit on the high side, buit then again you don't see these every day. Alec

A great deal slipped by most of you...

Ed Miarecki, a long time prop maker and one of the guys who helped restore the original Enterprise TV filming miniature for the Smithsonian, sold one of his Star Trek VI Assault Phasers on eBay last week. It went for only $ 1,300!

Now, most of what is passed off on eBay as "screen used" is crap, but Ed Miarecki is a solid source as he made these. My buddy Joseph from Austria, who was in Vancouver taking photos for the Battlestar Galactica auctions, won this cheap! I told him I would pay up to $ 3,000 for it and I felt the provenance was solid.

The auction descriptiuon stated:

In 1991, I was asked to fabricate Props for "Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country". Among them were Background Assault Phaser props. This is one of those units. It is a solid, cast resin prop with METAL detail parts, and is in EXCELLENT condition with only very minor nicks. Most of these units were used in the final climactic scene of the movie.

To the best of my knowledge, this prop was probably screen-used, although I have no positive proof of this...I can definitely say that this is one of the units shipped in the first "batch"

So a good deal for Joseph!
